About Patricia Terrell-O'Neal
Finding the means to make art is an attempt to create an equivalency of the inspiration. Taking something that is an allusion and seeing it manifest, that is the magic. The material used is its history. Even in the case where it is not apparent the truth lies beneath.

It is that truth I ask of myself, not whether it looks real. That is why I don't describe myself as a realist. It is important that the painting is free to become what it is. It can never be owned.

I see this in many artists, but in particular I am genuinely influenced by the emotive power of Kathe Kollwitz, the essential imagery of Georgia O' Keefe, the visual poetry of Giorgio Morandi and Paul Klee, the spiritual quality of Kasimir Malevich, and by the honesty of Goya. From artist like these I derive my faith.
